The new Genie ZX-135/70 41m (135ft)
articulating boom has been significantly
redesigned, with improvements in
reliability, performance, operator features
and serviceability.
“The Genie ZX-135/70 is an important
step toward the introduction of a new
family of next generation aerials,” Brad
Lawrence, General Manager for Genie
Australia said.
“The ZX-135/70 boom features a
maximum platform height of 41m (135ft),
21.3m (69ft. 9in) of horizontal outreach,
and 23.0m (75ft) of up-and-over clearance.
“The ZX-135/70 features a new
and exclusive X-Chassis design. This
revolutionary design provides a wider
footprint and reduces occupied floor
pressure by 30%. The boom lift’s axles
extend to a 5.2m (17ft) width and retract
to 2.4m (8ft), requiring no over-width
highway permits. The robust, box-section
axles pivot from vertical mounting pins,
providing easy and reliable machine
set-up, with excellent hose and hard line
protection throughout.”
The new extending jib is distinctive,
providing exceptional access by extending
Redesigned articulating boom lift
from a retracted length
of 3.7m (12ft) to an
extended length of 6.1m
(20ft), Brad said. This
new design provides
access to ‘up, over, and in’
applications inaccessible
by a traditional jib.
“Platform controls have
been updated with new
toggle switches and a
tactile membrane surface,
and feature proportional
Hall-effect joysticks for
all major functions. The
advantages of Hall-effect
joysticks are they have
fewer moving parts and all adjustments
are stored on one control card at the
ground control station. The new tri-axis
joystick controls the primary boom’s up/
down, extend/retract and turntable rotate
movements, while a second tri-axis joystick
controls the jib’s up/down, extend/retract
and platform rotate movements.
“The self-supporting cable track has
been strengthened with updated hose and
cable runs and is capable of supporting
platform options such as the heavy duty
welder, weld leads, platform work lights
and/or air lines.
“The Genie ZX-135/70 articulating boom
lift provides easy access for numerous
serviceability points, with hard lines for
increased protection. New angle sensors
feature larger resolution margins for
improved calibration stability.”

JCB’s newest Loadall has a lift load
capacity of four tonnes and lift height of
up to 20 metres.
“The 540-200 has been designed to meet
industry demand for increased lift heights
and forward reach capabilities. With fast
cycle times, it will set a new benchmark for
productivity,” JCB product manager Greg
Sealey said.
The boom has been specifically designed
for the construction market, using lighter,
higher grade material to improve the
capacity of the machine at reach.
“A five-stage boom design ensures
overall machine length is kept to a
minimum and site manoeuvrability is
maximised,” Greg said.
“The design provides optimum forward
visibility, allowing for quick and easy
changes in direction.”
Greg said the boom nose has a one-piece
design to minimise stresses on the inner
boom during operation, and the nose is
fitted with a JCB Clearview carriage for
quick interchange of attachments.
“The excellent forward visibility of
fork mounted loads makes it easier for
operators to accurately lift and place loads
New Loadall lifts loads to greater heights
and there is also the option of a fork
positioning attachment operated through
the standard single auxiliary,” Greg said.
“The machine’s stabiliser package is set
forward to maximise stability even at great
working heights, providing a compact yet
stable machine footprint and complete
operator peace of mind.”
The 540-200 uses the same driveline as
JCB’s current flagship 540-170 machine.
“This enables an excellent turning circle
over the tyres, for great manoeuvrability
even in tight construction sites,” Greg said.
The 540-200 is fitted with a JCB
Dieselmax 100hp engine, and large bonnet
provides easy access to daily check points.
“Ease of use and operator safety
and comfort are key elements of the
design,” Greg said. “A cab-mounted servo
controlled joystick provides effortless
control of all the hydraulic services and
instruments are offset to one side of the
cab to ensure excellent forward visibility.
Angled roof bars provide excellent upward
visibility, which is so important for fast
placing of loads at height.”
