Manitou is offering, as standard, the
attachment-recognition system (E-Reco) on its
new-generation ranges of rotative telescopic
trucks MRT EASY and MRT PRIVILEGE +.
The system uses RFID radio-identification
technology, very widely used in industry and
volume retailing. This autonomous technique
can recover and record data remotely. The
machine detects the attachment at the head
of the boom, analyses its data and proposes
the corresponding working configuration.
This technology provides the load chart in
real time, taking into account the rotation
angle of the turret and the position of the
machine’s stabilisers, in accordance with the
standard relative to mobile cranes.
“Simple and intuitive, it lets all MRT users
work easily while making best use of the
machine’s potential. The automatic calculation
of the load chart, adapted to the attachment in
place, safely optimises the use of the rotative
telescopic truck,” Olivier Vasseur, Product Line
Manager Attachments said.
The ranges of attachments not equipped with
the attachment-recognition system can benefit
from this technology by adapting RFID kits.
All attachments offered by Manitou follow
a process of validation (structural calculation,
hydraulic and thermal assessment, analysis of
risks and load chart) to ensure user safety and an
optimised machine/attachment pair.

The latest in the New Holland family of
heavy duty telehandlers, the compact LM625
offers a 84hp turbo engine providing power
while delivering fuel savings.
The LM625 features a powerful, high-
capacity hydraulic system for multi-tasking,
with a high flow gear pump that delivers 80
litres and 230 bar pressure.
The LM625’s hydrostatic transmission is
smooth and powerful, while the hydrostatic
pump and motor automatically change
displacement according to the torque
demand, with no need to flip a switch to
vary the pulling capacity. The inching pedal
permits easy modulation of the hydraulic
flow which is particularly valuable when slow
movements are needed for lowering heavy
loads at maximum reach. The system works like
a standard clutch but with the advantages of a
hydrostatic transmission the company said.
A standard, adjustable tilting steering column
allows a range of operator adjustments while
the proportional joystick is easy to use and offers
high precision in material handling applications
and fast response in digging operations as well
as controlling the attachment quick coupler.
The LM625’s cab offers low in-cab noise levels
and 360° visibility with a low 1.9m height. The
LM625’s engine compartment is easily accessible
through the tilting hood to access daily checks.

Telehandler takes performance
to new heights
SaaS is easy to get going with because there
is virtually nothing required to be installed
on your local desktop computer. Payment for
the service is usually on a monthly basis which
is better for cash flow. You can expense the
monthly fee as opposed to treating it as a
capital item you would have to depreciate. It
is easier for the provider to keep the software
up to date generally meaning cheaper support
costs. Need for local infrastructure is reduced.
Pitfalls to look out for:
All of the caveats of Cloud also apply to
SaaS. Free SaaS is not really free because you
will be subject to advertising. SaaS that is
initially free may not always be free as the
service provider gains market momentum.
Privacy policies may change at the whim of the
service provider.
Any software provided is done on a monthly
service fee – you do not get a perpetual licence.
This is important because if you stop paying, you
will lose access to the software and potentially
the data held within it. If your connection to the
Internet is down then you will be unable to use
SaaS provisioned services.
With Cloud and SaaS, the basic premise
is to outsource part of your IT so you do
not have to worry about it. In a world of
increasing specialisation, it does make sense
to take advantage of both Cloud and SaaS
where suitable for your business. With any
embracement of technology a careful ROI
calculation needs to be made.
