HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • NOVEMBER 2015

GENERATORS, COMPRESSORS, PUMPS

US magazine Newsweek analysed the

world’s 500 largest publicly-traded

companies to gauge how they fare on the

environment.

Together with research partners

Corporate Knights Capital and HIP

Investors, it looked at indicators such as

energy and water use, greenhouse gas

emissions and waste recycling.

Atlas Copco ranked 11th in the world and

highest in the industrial segment. Atlas

Copco was also on the list last year.

“Making innovative, energy-effective

products and taking other steps to

reduce the environmental impact is about

Tsurumi Pump, manufacturer of electro

submersibles, has released a range of

all stainless steel pumps designed for

corrosive liquids. The biggest of these are

the new 6” and 8” LH series pumps with

motors of up to 110kW.

Australian Pump Industries, Tsurumi’s

Australia and South Pacific distributor

said the impellers, casings, motor frames,

outer covers, strainer stands and flanges

are all made of corrosion resistant 316

stainless steel.

“The pumps have gone through extensive

testing before being released, first to the

US and now in the Australian mining

market,”Aussie Pumps Chief Engineer,

John Hales said.

Tsurumi has been a manufacturer of

all cast 316 stainless steel pumps for

a number of years with the SFQ series

ranging from 0.4kW to 11kW. The new

LH stainless steel series with 110kW

motors provide pumps with flows of up to

6,500L/min and heads to 107m.

The LH series in standard cast iron

configuration are popular in mines

because of their slimline design and high

head configuration so they don’t need to

be used in tandem to achieve the same

head capacity.

Best industrial company on environment

Atlas Copco, a leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions, was listed as

the top industrial company in July by the Newsweek Green Rankings that looks at

corporate sustainability and environmental impact.

business leadership,” Mala Chakraborti,

Atlas Copco’s Vice President Corporate

Responsibility said.

“Our environmental targets are central

to our business, and we are happy to be

recognised for this.”

Atlas Copco’s energy-saving products

include its variable-speed compressors, a

technology the Group pioneered in 1994

that enables compressors to run only

at the speed necessary, cutting energy

consumption.

In 2013, Atlas Copco launched the

patented VSD+ technology, which cuts

energy use by more than half compared

with traditional compressors.

Earlier this year, Atlas Copco was among

those recognised by the United Nations

at the agency’s major conference on

climate change for the Group’s goals to

cut carbon dioxide from its products and

operations. Atlas Copco was also this

year recognised as one of the world’s

most sustainable companies in the

annual Global 100 list.

Big mine pumps go all stainless steel

The LH series also incorporates Tsurumi’s

standard features, including the anti-

wicking cable entry that prevents water

ingress into the motor if the power lead is

damaged or the end submerged.

All Tsurumi motors feature inbuilt thermal

protection that cuts power on ‘over

current’ or extended dry run conditions.

a submersible pump because of issues with abrasion and high temperature and the

has cooled, allowing the pump to

automatically restart.

The entire range offers double silicon

carbine seals with a unique oil lifter,

incorporated in the seal chamber

that ensures seal surfaces are always

lubricated.
