Andrew Delahunt is

now fulfilling the safety

and Standards compliance

role at Haulotte, replacing

industry stalwart Bernie

Kiekebosch’s passion and

dedication to this position.

“Bernie was a staunch

supporter of safety in

EWPs and now he has

passed that baton to

me. I definitely feel this

is a role vital not just for

Haulotte machines but for

the industry as a whole,”

Andrew said.

Andrew, a mechanical engineer, began his

career at Ford in the late 1990s introducing

the Total Preventative Maintenance Scheme,

stamping tool design and the Flowchart

Performance Analysis Project. He moved onto

Kenworth Trucks Australia as the application

engineer, ensuring customer orders were

buildable and driveable until 2005 when he

joined Volgren Australia where he designed

buses for Australian and overseas markets.

In 2011 Andrew joined the Haulotte Group

as Product Safety Manager, responsible for

Australia, Asia and India.

The role commenced with training across

the Haulotte factories in Europe, and with the

engineering team at Haulotte’s head office in

Lyon France.

“Safety has always been the primary driver

of the Haulotte global machine, which makes

the role of the Product Safety Manager of

fundamental importance,” Andrew said.

“Haulotte’s range of access equipment and

telescopic material handlers (telehandlers)

has experienced significant technological

improvements over the last decade. The

Passing the safety baton at Haulotte

useability and functionality

of the machines has

improved, while service

managers received a bonus

with improved serviceability

with the updated fleet.

“These changes require

careful management to

ensure the safety, quality

and legal standards are

met. That’s the fundamental

role of the Product Safety

Manager - ensuring

compliance to Australian

Standards and each

machine is faithful to

Haulotte’s values of safety first.

“It is an interesting and challenging role. The

range of applications Australian’s will use their

machines for is staggering.

“I am also proud to work for a company that

has been a champion for safety features. The

experience Haulotte has with load sensing systems,

it is now up to Generation 4, has enabled an

experienced and successful implementation into

Australia. Long term the owners of the machine

will be thankful load-sensing systems have

helped restrict misuse of the machine, improving

longevity and improving operator safety,” Andrew

said.

“A current safety project at Haulotte is the

introduction of the Sanctuary Zone, a UK

developed anti-crush barrier. The benefit of the

Sanctuary Zone is the operator is protected within

the barrier, which is different to existing bars

which protects the controls from being accidently

used if the operator is crushed.

“The Sanctuary Zone will be interchangeable

onto all brands, plus is easily installed in the field.”
