Focusing on the concept of ‘putting a
billboard where there is no billboard’,
Hyped Media revolves around its mobile
LED screen box trucks, the size of a
standard delivery truck.
“The box structure on the back of the
truck is clad with LED screens,” James
Henry at Hyped Media said.
“Both the driver’s side and passenger’s
side are 4m x 2m and the tailgate is 2m x
2m. The screens are designed for outdoor
usage; the same as LED billboards on
highways or at a sporting ground when
the game is on, which means they are
suited to all kinds of weather."
Hyped Media is the brain child of
business partners Steve Baker and James
Henry. James has a degree in marketing
and was previously the BDM for a
printing and signage company. Steve was
a client of James’ who had purchased a
café business and wanted rebrand and
promotional signage for his café.
“Steve wanted to advertise on a highway
billboard. We went through the pros
and cons of a highway billboard, fixed

location, minimum hire period of one
month, single fixed message. For Steve,
there were no highway billboards nearby
where he wanted to advertise. He also
knew his clients moved around so he
liked the idea of a mobile billboard
campaign. I suggested the banner truck
businesses that have been around for
a long time. He said he’d looked into
them, but the limitations where still the
same. There’s a fixed cost for the printing
and installation of the banners, there’s
a minimum period you need to hire for,
and the days need to be in succession
and, it’s still a single static image. Steve
wanted something that could advertise
coffee in the morning, sandwiches at
lunchtime and cocktails in the evening.
And he wanted to hire it for Fridays
and Saturdays only, when his clients
were around. I said, that sounds great,
but what you want is a mobile digital
billboard and no such thing exists.
“He asked why, and that was the start of
Hyped Media.
“A unique feature of our trucks is the
hinge system. On a standard delivery
truck, the tailgate would open and
close on a hinge. Our tailgate is fixed.
Instead, the driver’s side and passenger’s
side of the truck open and close on an
hydraulically operated hinge system. This
allows the sides, or wings, of the truck
to open out and join up with the tailgate
creating one single seamless 10m x 2m
LED screen or billboard. This means there
are two screens – one for content and the
other for advertising.
“The trucks are self-sufficient with an
on board generator power supply. The
trucks also feature a PA system, including
wireless microphones. The ‘Media Centre’
of the truck allows us to connect to a
wide variety of sources. Laptops, video
cameras, TV Antenna, etc. Basically
anything with an HDMI output.
“And we can have up to three input
sources playing on the screen at one time.
So, for example, we could go to an open
paddock and park the truck. Within about
half an hour, we will have the generator
going (supplying power), TV coverage
