HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • AUGUST 2016

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & SITE SAFETY

A free standing design without floor

fixings or bracing for impact, Titan

Eco Fencing features a patented

counterweight design that is a zero

trip hazard for pedestrians. Each

counterweight is 13kg on average and

is designed to be stackable so weight

can be added and removed as required

according to wind rating requirements.

The HIEA was presented to Titan

Hoarding Systems’ General Manager and

owner, Greg Bloom at a Queensland HRIA

meeting on 15 June.

According to Greg, the new Titan Eco

Fencing system came about as a direct

result of the success of the company’s

Hoarding Systems which Titan developed

over five years after continued frustration

with traditional hoarding.

Traditional hoardings in indoor sites like

shopping centres offered little in the way

of structural tie down points unless the

hoarding was bolted to the floor or the

plasterboard ceilings, Greg said.

“The construction industry had been

doing hoardings the same way for the

past 100 years and they were dangerous.

Because unless the hoarding was

connected to a bulkhead or fixture they

were usually connected to plasterboard

and plasterboard is not a strong

anchoring point,” Greg said.

“And of course every time you pulled

down the hoardings you had to fix the

plasterboard and it was always a bone of

contention with the client; to fix it quickly

and cleanly.

“With Titan Hoarding System, we can

build the hoarding, put it in, pull

it out and you’d never know it

was there. It is counter weighted,

engineering certified and can be

built by anybody. It is perfect for the

hire industry because it is a system

that is engineer certified, not the

installation,” Greg said.

“We have trained and registered

installers across the country who

can train installers erecting our

fencing but the system is so simple

anybody can install it and still gain

engineering certification.

“Titan Eco Fencing is only for hire. It

was initially developed for our own

use. Our construction business (Eagle

Rock Construction) has been erecting

hoardings for the past 15 years. We were

always fixing plasterboard ceilings,

getting the hoardings in place and

determining how we could make them

structurally sound. I wanted something

that was going to eradicate those

problems and provide a total solution.

And we got it right first up; you could say

we were a ‘five year overnight success’.

“The Eco Fence is our newest product

and we used the technology and

methodology from our counterweighted

hoarding system to design the temporary

fencing. It originated when a client

asked me two years ago if we could do

something like the counter weighted

hoarding in fencing.

“Our Eco Fencing grew from there

and we originally designed it for us to

install our own temp fencing with our

own counterweights on it but in the

process of patenting it I decided maybe

I should broaden that patent to take into

consideration every other (temp fencing)

system in the country.

“So our fencing system can use ACF’s

weights, 1300’s or anyone’s temp

fencing base. We simply retrofit theirs to

increase the strength and wind rating

exponentially. Other fencing suppliers

can take our complete system or change

it up so they use our base, their own

fence panels and weights and still end

up with an engineered certified system,”

Greg said.

Titan Eco temporary fencing is impact

rated, engineer certified to AS 4687, can

feature tamper evident seals, has two

points of secure contact, is quick and

easy to assemble, modify or remove,

plus, OH&S, QA and site specific

engineers certification and specification

documentation is provided for every site.
