HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • NOVEMBER 2015

In today’s market we often consider

sourcing plant from overseas suppliers

as we strive for any edge over our

competitors, Kevin Wilson, Chief

Executive Officer from Crommelins

Machinery said. “In doing so, the

temptation is to only look at the upfront

purchase price and not the total cost

of ownership which includes servicing,

reliability and plant life,” Kevin said.

“This upfront saving often equates to only

one or two days’ hire cost which can then

be chewed up very quickly if the plant is

broken down or not fit for purpose.

“The advantage of a local manufacturer

includes the flexibility to customise your

plant, reducing the need for ‘retro-fitting’

of wheel kits, fire extinguishers or safety

stops, etc. Many local manufacturers are

flexible enough to say ‘nothing is too hard

for us’. If your plant requires a special

frame or specifications, it can normally

be done. You also have the peace of mind

it will be built to exacting Australian

standards and regulatory requirements.

“Locally assembled and tested means

your plant is built and tested to a

stringent level of specifications, ensuring

it is ready to work straight out of the

box,” Kevin said.

“Even if things do go wrong, backup and

support is available immediately with

local manufacturers easily contactable

and normally able to deliver parts to you

by the next day, making sure your plant is

back on the road earning you money.”
