Woodside Petroleum, operator of oil
and gas production in Australia and
independent dedicated oil and gas
company, has awarded Compressed Air and
Power Solutions (CAPS) Australia a supply
contract to provide an air compressor
package for the new $5 billion North
Rankin B Platform.
The package was designed and built by
CAPS, with the majority of parts sourced in
Australia. CAPS will be supplying a solution
containing three 160 kW Ingersoll Rand
rotary screw air compressors along with
two air dryers and four filters designed
and built to meet Woodside’s need for a 30
year life cycle.
Due to the extreme climatic conditions
on and around the North West Shelf, many
custom features have been designed into
the compressors to handle the corrosive
environment. The unit’s oil and air coolers
will be purpose built with unique anodized
surfaces and the internal oil handling
system will be made
of duplex and super
duplex stainless steels.
The entire external
enclosure will be
made from passivated
316 stainless steel.
In consideration of
the location and
ecology, the coolant,
lubricant and drying
media chosen for use
in the machinery are
non-hazardous and
eco-friendly.
“To ensure
maximum uptime
and reliability, the package will have a
centralised state-of-the-art programmable
logic controller (PLC) which will oversee
the three compressors and two dryers,
linked to a range of data monitoring and
analysis instruments,” Alan Kemp, Senior

The PLC will include emergency power
supplies to ensure minimal disruption even
in the worst cases,” Alan said.

MINING IN FOCUS
A new heavy duty 3” trash pump
designed for the construction and mining
market, the Aussie Mine Boss, has been
released by Australian Pump Industries.
The new pump is inspired by Aussie
Pumps’ staff seeing construction plant like
trash pumps and generators with mangled
or bent frames and realising conventional
trash pumps are not built for the rigours of
construction and mine sites.
The new Mine Boss features a 38mm,
hot dip galvanised frame with separate
sub-base and anti-vibration mounts and an
incorporated balanced lifting bar.

Aussie Pumps’ Dean Fountain said the
pump comes with fire extinguisher and
emergency stop and a dry cell battery with
lockable isolation is standard.
The Mine Boss pumps 1200lpm of solid
laden liquids in its diesel configuration. It
has a maximum head of 30m direct vertical
lift. Suction capability is 7.6m enabling the
pump to draught water from pits, wells or
leachate ponds. The pump is designed to
self-prime quickly and will pass solids in
suspension with ease.
