HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • NOVEMBER 2016

GENERATORS, COMPRESSORS, PUMPS

With a one-piece-flow process, built

using Lean Manufacturing principles,

the AllightSykes team completed the

machines on budget and on time.

AllightSykes CEO Paul Thompson, said:

“Since the customer requested a staged

delivery of six months for the project, it

was vitally important all machines were

built to the same exacting standards –

facilitated by standardising work into

repeatable activities ensuring consistency

across the whole order.”

Paul said July also saw the first delivery

of two Allight SuperSkid lighting towers

to Vale, via the AllightSykes international

Barloworld Power distribution network.

“While these machines are a static build,

the Lean principles of creating standard

work were essential to the successful

on time delivery of these machines.

Production flexes the principles to the

situation. The machines are big; too big

to move easily, but they are made up

Bright export prospects for Minespec lighting towers

In July, the AllightSykes Western Australian production facility completed the final 12 of

24 MineSpec lighting towers for international customer, Schlumberger.

of a number of assemblies that can be

standardised and built off line. This has

enabled work to be carried out in parallel,

minimising our throughput time on the

shop floor. These two are the first of a

batch of five machines, to be built over

July to September.

“Despite a depressed market globally for

mining and resources capital equipment,

the quality, reliability and short lead times

for our mining specification lighting

towers has resulted in another round of

export orders to support Multi-national

customers in both Africa and Venezuela,”

Paul said.

AllightSykes emerged following the

acquisition of Sykes in November 2010 by

Allight Holdings. The pump specialist sits

alongside group brands including Allight

and SMC mobile light towers, FGWilson

generators and Perkins diesel engines.

From worldwide headquarters in Perth,

design, engineering, procurement and

assembly teams produce almost 3,000

lighting towers a year.

Powered by either a CAT or Perkins

engine, each tower features reliable

components as well as a unique mast

design and light assembly which makes

sure the maximum output reaches

optimum productivity and safety.

The jetter propels a flexible and lightweight thermoplastic hose

through 50mm to 250mm lines – and is capable of blasting

through sludge, soap, grease, and sediment blockages. As the

hose is pulled back, it power scrubs the line, flushing debris

away and restoring drain lines to full, free-flowing capacity –

and all without the use of harmful chemicals, the company said.

Features include: Italian high pressure Triplex piston plunger

pump, with rubber foot mounted; Honda GX690 electric start

petrol V-twin engine with six vibration protection mounts and

an hour meter; 60m of lightweight 3/8” thermoplastic hose;

60m remote reel with 1/4” hose; four nozzles in a carry box;

a pressure washer lance; easy read pressure gauge and 36L

stainless steel water supply tank.

Other features include: low level water cut out; solid frame

construction and powder coat finish with side guard protection;

20L stainless steel fuel tank with level gauge and fuel tap; easy

reach emergency stop button; oversized puncture proof wheels;
