As always there are a number of great speakers

lined up. Make sure you go along and have

a listen. From a personal point of view it

is pleasing to see we will be getting some

international exposure with Leigh Sparrow

attending. For those of you who don’t know

Leigh he is the publisher of Cranes & Access

magazine and the very informative vertical.net

website.

I have known Leigh for many years and I know

he loves nothing more than to have a chat

about what’s going on in the access industry.

So if you see him around please go up and

introduce yourself and say hi.

I recently attended a joint HRIA / EWPA trade

night in Perth which had over a hundred

attendees. Some great food, refreshments and

ample networking made for a great night.

A big thanks to Allwest Equipment Hire for

hosting the function at their premises and to

all the suppliers for their support; it's greatly

appreciated.

The Perth event was a great example of how

the state committees try and come up with

ways where different and informative meetings

benefit the members. If you have a product,

idea for a meeting or speaker please pass it

on to either your state president or the EWPA

National office. We certainly would love to hear

from you.

Over the past six months it has been

unfortunate there have been a number of

deaths attributed to the use of aerial work

platforms. While I am not in a position to

comment on the nature of the accidents we

must remember we are operating high risk

plant, but the

risks can be

mitigated by

undertaking the

correct training,

worksite

assessments

and selecting

the correct

machine for the

job.

Don’t forget a great deal of information can

be found under the ‘Resources’ tab on the

EWPA’s website, including information sheets,

alerts and notices, safety controller information

and Yellow Card information. If you or your

company is a member then there is even more

information at hand simply by logging in on the

members section. Go to www.ewpa.com.au

On a technical note the EWPA has been invited

by the International Standards Organisation

(ISO) technical committee to participate in the

new international standard which will deal

with the ‘design and operation of controls’. It is

pleasing to see Australia is an active participant

in developing the new standard and Peter

Wenn, the EWPA’s Technical Director, will be

attending the meeting which is being held in

June. It will be interesting seeing the outcome

as it appears the three standards, AS/NZ

1418:10, ISO16368 and EN280 are getting to the

point where hopefully there will be one global

standard.

And so, see you on the Gold Coast.

Rick Mustillo

EWPA National President

Industry support in networking as well as technical

president's

message

After an excellent show in Adelaide last year, we are back at

the Gold Coast for the annual HRIA convention. The Gold Coast

always seems to attract the largest attendances and by all

accounts the 2016 show will follow.
