PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Let’s look forward to a bright and
prosperous new year, there is no doubt the
economy has started to turn in a positive
direction and there, as always, remain
opportunities.
The recent tough times have taught us
the best way to grow is to continue doing
things well. Companies that have a
system dedicated towards striving
for excellence will in the long run
always fare better than the price
cutters.
A catering company I have the
pleasure to deal with on a regular basis
has experienced phenomenal growth in
the past two years; this has been achieved
through their ongoing commitment to
‘the customer experience’. This company is
now in a position where it is deliberately
slowing its own growth, wanting always
to control the product delivered to the
customer. This is a position most of us
dream about, however I can honestly

say they truly believe in their ‘customer
experience’ approach and it’s very hard to
argue with success.
I wonder how many of us are getting
bogged down in the day to day and not
really looking at the work we do from the
customer’s point of view, maybe something
to try as an analysis for say a month.
The HRIA Convention is back on the Gold
Coast again this year with a revised format
for the exhibition and conference. This is
always an informative fun event and this
year will be bigger and better than ever.
Mark Thursday 1 May in your diary right
now as the events dinner night. This will
be the number one networking night for
the events division.We have a great venue
and we will set it up with a quiet end and
a noisy end of the room, so there will be
something to suit everyone. Make sure you
book early because numbers are limited!
Bring a customer or a guest and have some
fun. If there is enough interest we might
even run an ‘Events People Have Talent’
competition in the noisy end of the
room; sing, dance, magic, tell a joke
or anything, let me know if you’re
game.
I would also like to welcome any
of the members to send me photos
or a brief rundown on any events they are
proud of or you think would be of interest
to the industry. The work that goes into
making a great event is vast and the event
time span quite short, but there is nearly
always a story worth sharing. Let’s let the
rest of the industry know what we are
doing and lift our profile.
