TELESCOPIC HANDLERS IN FOCUS

Equipment Safety Systems’ telehandler load management safety system, the GEN3-LMS, provides

an additional level of safety when lifting both suspended and non-suspended loads.

It is a summation of both a Rated Capacity Limiter and a Longitudinal Moment Limiter combined

in a single system that handles both processes simultaneously.

The GEN3-LMS system includes as standard a reverse camera and forward blind spot camera

in addition to operator swipe card log on. Automatic tool recognition, remote access with GPS

tracking and a wireless load positioning camera can be added to the system to increase safety and

machine efficiency. The wireless remote camera can be mounted on the load or forks or given to

the dogman to hold for real time visual information when positioning loads.

The system boasts a high definition 7 inch wide, colour screen display with three dimensional

graphics and computer generated animations. The display module features an on screen digital

rating chart, which includes forward prediction and active band shading. The machine attachment

moves within the rating chart in real time.

Additionally, the operator can zoom into the chart for greater detail during difficult lifts.

The Dynamic Stability Triangle (DST) is a unique method of representing the machine’s lateral

stability. It provides the operator with an interface to determine machine stability and centre of

gravity, as stability of the machine decreases with high boom angles and long boom extensions.

The current load centre of the telehandler is indicated by the blue crosshairs within the stability

triangle. If these crosshairs approach the edge of the triangle (which if reached will result in the

telehandler tipping over), a stability indicator will appear and a warning sound be emitted.

Easy to install, the system GPS capabilities allow operators to log in from anywhere and remotely

access any data relevant to the machine’s operation at any time of day.

JCB has released what it terms as the highest capacity telehandler on the Australian market.

The 550-80 telehandler offers a maximum lift capacity of 5 tonnes and height of 8.1m.

JCB Construction Equipment Australia National Telehandler Manager Greg Sealey said the new

machine was ideally suited to bulk handling applications.

“The 550-80 achieves the highest payload of any JCB telehandler and it introduces a number of

new features in the JCB range and wider telehandler market,” Mr Sealey said.

Engine options include a 97kW (130hp) or new 108kW (145hp) JCB Dieselmax Tier III powerplant,

the largest ever fitted to a JCB telehandler, Greg said.

Linked to a four-speed powershift transmission, the machine also has 145 litres per minute

variable flow hydraulics and high

flow pipework for optimised

cycle times and auxiliary service

performance.

The bigger JCB 550-80 has uprated

heavy-duty axles with four-wheel

braking, as well as wider wheel

centres and larger tyres and is

capable of up to 40kms per hour.

Mr Sealey said in a first for JCB

telehandlers, the 550-80 uses a

‘Z’ bar front linkage between the

hydraulic tilt ram and the carriage.

This design maximises the force

generated by the piston side of the

hydraulic ram, which, in conjunction

with the ‘Z’ bar linkage, creates

a breakout force of 6.5t – a 50%

increase on the 541-70 telehandler.

A low boom line adds to all-round visibility, while JCB’s Smooth Ride System (SRS) offers

improved load retention and increased comfort in load and carry operations.

The JCB 550-80 is also fitted with a new standard variable speed cooling and reverse fan.

“Changes in ambient air temperature adjusts the fan speed automatically to achieve maximum

cooling efficiency,’’ Mr Sealey said. For more information contact: 1300 JCB CEA.
