The report update predicts the amount

of construction work carried out on

major projects will fall from just under

$10.5bn in 2014/15 to $5.9bn in 2015/16.

(A project’s total cost must be $100m or

greater to be considered a ‘major project’

for the purposes of this report).

Iain Ward said while it was important to

remember the report is only a forecast, it

was based on reliable current data and

highlighted many serious challenges for

industry over the next four years.

“Queensland still has some positives on

the major projects front but a decline

of around 50% is a serious investment

challenge in the short to medium-term.

“Equally concerning is the continuing

level of uncertainty about a pipeline of

viable projects coming to fruition against

the backdrop of fluctuating commodity

Contractors Association and Construction Skills Queensland, has forecast the value of

construction work carried out on major projects will decline by almost half in 2015/16,”
