HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • MAY 2016

Technical staff do a fantastic job, however

when working on multiple machines,

little details can often be missed, leading

to increased costs and downtime further

down the line.

Here’s where a distributor can assist

your business. Distributors have expert

technicians that undergo regular training

on their specific product ranges. A key

part of the training includes discussions

about equipment performance trends

and how they vary by industry. These

discussions are a critical part of the

training because it relates to real life

performance of the products. As well as

the training, the technicians continually

receive technical updates. This means

distributor technicians have the latest,

product specific expertise and are able to

spot tell-tale signs which might be linked

to certain uses.

Generators and compressors can develop

certain problems in hire and rental

applications because of poor fuel quality,

incorrect loads being placed on machines

and not servicing machines regularly to

cope with site conditions (for example,

dusty environments mean machines will

require shorter service intervals).

Maximising uptime – the importance of product

specific maintenance

By Kevin Ennis, General Manager, Redstar

In the hire and rental industry, companies often employ technical staff to service their

fleets. It is not uncommon for these staff to have broad knowledge, servicing multiple

makes and models of machines, from compressors, generators, access equipment,

compaction equipment to small plate compactors and more.

When was the last

time:

• An insulation

resistance test

of the alternator

winding was

carried out on

your generator

fleet?

• Your generator

fleet received a

load test?

• The scavenge

line orifice on the

pressure vessel

was removed,

cleaned and

inspected on your

compressor fleet?

• Anyone replaced the speed regulator

diaphragm on your compressors fleet?

Redstar Equipment recommends annual

service visits from your distributor’s

product specific technician to assist your

technical staff in feeling comfortable

these little things won’t stand between

you and the reliability of your fleet of

machines.

A quality distributor will also provide

genuine parts which are rigorously

tested to ensure they will perform when

you need it and meet the equipment

requirements.

Take the time to look around your yard;

how much equipment and potential

revenue do you have parked up awaiting

inspection or repair?
