INDUSTRY in FOCUS

The business was formed in 2012 by

owners Damian Lowes, Jace Sargent and

Brian Johnstone, with only a single roller

but a determination to find out what

customers wanted from the hire industry.

“It certainly pays to listen to your

customers and not just assume you know

what they want,” CCH Director, Brian

Johnstone said.

The business grew at its original

premises in Aurora Ave, Queanbeyan

with the three owners reinvesting every

cent into the business to build the fleet

of equipment. By the beginning of 2014

CCH had grown to contain a hire fleet

of over several hundred items and were

taking calls requesting more equipment.

“Civil Construction Hire’s reputation

for good customer service and quality

equipment has helped create a valuable

relationship with Fulton Hogan on the

Majura Parkway,” Brian said.

“Originally CCH proposed supplying

compaction equipment for Fulton

Hogan but after being recognised for

outstanding customer service and

equipment supply we were asked to

supply other equipment too,” Brian said.

By the start of the New Year 2015 CCH’s

hire fleet had expanded to such a size a

move to larger premises was required.

In early February 2015, CCH moved to

new premises at 40 Endurance Ave,

Queanbeyan which has allowed the

business to continue to give quality

customer service and provide its staff

with the necessary space to ensure

maintenance requirements are complete.

“Today our hire fleet continues to grow

and we have achieved so much in our

three years of operation. We are the

biggest locally owned hire company in

Queanbeyan and the ACT. We are a great

example of how hard work, determination

and a focus on customer service can

ensure the development of new small

business,” Brian said.

“CCH provides equipment hire for

industries from civil to building

construction and government and

local councils. We have a large fleet of

equipment that ranges from smaller

landscape equipment eg: chainsaws,

leaf blowers, pressure washers and

portable tools to large civil scale

equipment like excavators and rollers.

We have equipment for site compounds

eg: portable buildings, offices, toilets,

generators and lighting towers. We also

hire utility vehicles including tipper

trucks, water trucks and site utes.

“We also supply road management

solutions eg: signs, messages boards,

bollards and road barriers.”

The company has also branched out

to sell consumables for landscape and

civil trades including: marking paints,

landscape tools, mains tape, machinery

consumables, excavator attachments

(teeth and cutting edges), star pickets,

and barrier tapes and mesh.

“Along with machinery hire we also

specialise in the supply and operation

of test plugs, manhole and pipe testing.

We work closely with the relevant water

and sewerage companies to provide the

equipment and test underground pipes

and manholes. We supply a ‘dry’ hire

service and a ‘wet’ hire service," he said.

“CCH supply equipment to help the

community at local events eg: portable

toilets, generators and lighting towers.

Over the past two years we have given

back to the community be it through

junior sports sponsorship or major

donations to charities like Marymead and

Snowy Hydro Southcare.

“We not only look after our customers but

also our employees. Our team is made up

of a diverse range of individuals. We are

very family orientated and see the value

of acceptance among our employees.

“We have employees who have

mortgages and kids and we are keen

to have a sensible work life balance for

them. We try to be as flexible as possible

with our staff’s hours and work with them

to accommodate personal pressures.

“Beyond the benefits and salary, trust is

by far the biggest attribute to a successful

relationship between employees and the

employer. We see each other as family.

“We are on a mutual understanding with

our employees, we are a small business

and we rely heavily on our employees to

maintain a high performance standard to

keep the business running, while we are

in return providing the best environment,

benefits and salary we possibly can.

“At CCH we provide our employees with
