HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • NOVEMBER 2015

As the fledging association continued

through its first year, they made plans

to meet for a ‘general convention of

rental operators’ the following January in

Kansas City, Missouri. They decided if the

convention was well received, they would

hold it annually.

No one needs to guess how that first

convention was received. Fast forward

to 2016, where the equipment rental

industry will be celebrating ARA’s 60th

anniversary as well as the 60th annual

convention and trade show in Atlanta at

Branches demonstrating innovative

layouts and internal structures, strong

and prominent branding, a commitment

to customer service and operational

efficiency are recognised by HIANZ to

reward them for their contribution to the

hire industry in New Zealand.

Nic Taylor, Branch Manager at Kennards

Hire in Albany accepted the award from

HIANZ.

“Kennards Hire is a long standing family

business in Australia, but our presence

in New Zealand only dates back three

years,” Nic said.

“We’ve made a really concerted effort to

make an impact on the NZ hire industry

in that time and this Gold Hire Excellence

Award is a wonderful acknowledgement

of the hard work countless Kennards Hire

staff members have put in throughout the

company’s time here.”

Kennards Hire established a presence in

New Zealand three years ago when they

acquired McEntee Hire. Over the past

three years an Auckland-wide rebrand of

McEntee Hire was undertaken. Kennards

Hire then expanded into Wellington

opening a new branch in Newtown

and last year entered the South Island,

acquiring City Hire, a three branch hire

company in Christchurch.

Kennards Hire has continued to improve

through training staff, upgrading

equipment and working hard on customer

service excellence. The development of

the Auckland network has kept Northern

Area Manager, Tom Kimber, very busy.

“Kennards Hire is, first and foremost, a

family business. HIANZ does an excellent

job at upholding many of the values we

consider fundamental in the operation of

our business. It’s a special moment for

Kennards Hire in New Zealand.”

The Rental Show to celebrate 60 years of ARA in February 2016

In March 1955, a group of 21 rental business owners from throughout the Midwest met

in Moline, Illinois, to establish what is today the American Rental Association (ARA).

the Georgia World Congress Center from

21–24 February 2016.

“The Rental Show has been delivering

the opportunities rental stores need to

succeed since ARA’s inception in 1955.

It’s the only place where you can find the

latest rental products, learn new business

strategies and meet people with rental

know-how to share in one location,”

Christine Wehrman, ARA’s CEO said.

“The Rental Show 2016 will be a

wonderful celebration of ARA’s 60th

anniversary with a look back at how the

association has grown throughout the

years as well as a look ahead toward a

continued successful future,” Christine

said.

“The annual convention was created

to bring the members together so they

could exchange ideas, learn how to be

profitable and purchase new equipment.

Those remain the reasons why members

travel from around the world to attend

The Rental Show each year,” she said.
