In 1983 a landmark development took
place at Honda; the release of the GX
Series Overhead valve (OHV) engine.
At the time, the OHV technology
inherent in the engine was regarded as
unnecessary, however in the 30 years since
then the unit has been widely recognised
as one of the most successful engineering
developments in the industry, Honda said.
In a 2003 interview, the Japanese
engineer responsible for the GX Series
OHV engine, Yonekazu Uestsuji, said
getting the engine past management at
the time was incredibly difficult.
“Some managers felt the additional cost
of OHV was not warranted”, he said.
As history has shown, Uestsuji san
persuaded not only his managers the
OHV was in fact a worthwhile product to
invest in, but also the Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) that utilised the
engine in their products.

The Attach2 Dromone Multi Lock
Coupler to suit earthmoving machines
from 6 to 110 tonne features a dual
locking device on both front and rear pins
allowing a full changeover of attachments
to be completed without the operator
having to leave the cab.
Designed and manufactured in
Europe the Attach2 Dromone Multi
Lock Coupler hitches comply with and
exceed ISO 14121-1:2007; EN ISO 12100-
1:2003+A1:2009; European standard
EN474-1:2006; and Australian Standard AS
4772-2008.
Features include a full hydraulic kit,
with an in-cab electrical switch system,
solenoid valve block, valve block, check
valve and sufficient hoses, joiners,
electrical cable, washers and cable ties.
A Ranger-style coupler allows for a wide
variety of attachments to be used while
increased safety and reassurance comes
with both attachment pin locks visible to
the machine operator.

Furukawa hydraulic
hammers give
contractors the ability
to break through
almost any material
while minimising
stress to the excavator,
according to John
Peagram, Market
Development
Specialist, Hyundai
Construction
Equipment Australia
(HCEA), the Australian
Furukawa distributor.
“The new Fx series
Furukawa hammer
is so quiet you can
comfortably stand
a metre from the
hammer, but it is the
performance that really impresses people.
Just a short, sharp burst can break most
materials. That’s the way a hammer is
meant to be operated, so there is less stress
on the excavator.
“People who have previously said they
wouldn’t use a hammer on their excavator
because of the stress it imposes have had
a rethink after experiencing the Furukawa
hammer.”

University of Tokyo to
redesign the impact
mechanism to reduce the
transfer of vibration to
the excavator. This, with
the fully closed frame
and soundproofing kit,
contributes to the low
noise levels.
“The hammers have a
valve for adjusting the oil
pressure and gas pressure,
which allows the Fx series
hammers to be matched
to a wide range of mini
excavators.
“Its design minimises
the number of parts
and ensures worn parts
can be replaced readily.
The mono-block design
eliminates a separate cylinder, front
head and through-bolts. There is a large
diameter piston and the cylinder liner is
replaceable, while the front bushing can
be replaced in the field,” John said.
HCEA is launching a customer care
program for Furukawa owners that will
involve field training in how to set up and
operate a hammer for the best results, and
how to maintain a hammer. Contact:

of attachments can be eliminated with
the Sequential Cab Control System and
an hydraulic check valve comes fitted as
standard. Further safety is ensured on
first contact of the coupler front lock to
the front pin: these automatically lock
together eliminating pick-and-place of
attachments.
