CONVENTION PREVIEW
A Takeuchi TB 175 excavator played a
role during recent modernisation work on
Melbourne’s tram network.
To minimise disruption to retailers, when
tram tracks were renewed in Chapel Street,
Prahran, work was quick, replacing 1.2km
of double tram track in four days, with
works continuing 24 hours a day.
Raymond Rail Services was contracted to
assist in the removal of the old rail tracks
and stacking lines to one side, ready for
loading them to trucks for removal.
“
Our Takeuchi TB 175 excavator was
specially equipped to handle the 300 tonnes
of steel rail that had to be removed each
day,“ Raymond Moore said.
“
It assisted the breaking of the rails
for removal. We then used our grapple
attachment to move the lines and load to
trucks.
“
The excavator’s track configuration
is ideal for traversing expanses of
broken concrete. The pressurised cabin is
comfortable, preventing the ingress of dust,
and we have high visibility which is crucial
for this type of work. The special two-piece
boom is fitted with height and slew limiters
for safe operation under rail power lines.”
