“...We have been
listening when you
said you would love
to be able to see live
hands-on
demonstrations every
day – to have the
chance to experience
it all up close and
personal as well as
having the face-to-
face talk time at the
indoor exhibition. This
year we’re bringing it
to you. ”
Happy New Year and
welcome to the first edition for
2014! Hopefully you had time
off over the festive season and
are well rested and ready for a
big year ahead. There is plenty
going on at an association level
as well as at a business level.
Over the latter months of
last year Phil Newby, Gary
Kerr and Tim Nuttall had
several meetings in Canberra
regarding the dreaded PPSA.
This legislation is proving
tiresome and costly and
we are now seeing very
real legal repercussions for
not registering plant and
equipment on the PPSR.
The HRIA and EWPA have
been taking a proactive stance
on the issue of the PPSA, taking
the argument direct to those
in power to get our industry’s
voice heard. It was also
pertinent timing considering
the changeover in government.
Twice in a matter of weeks,
our guys took the debate
to Canberra, to discuss with
several key political figures,
how the PPS Act directly affects
our industry. What we really
want to hear is how we can
resolve some of those issues.
Encouragingly, feedback
from the meetings indicated
politicians now understand the
problem.
In 2014, the HRIA is gearing
up for another big national
convention; again at the Gold
Coast and I strongly encourage
you to attend. This year we
are introducing three days of
indoor and outdoor exhibition
and all at the one location.
We have been listening when
you said you would love to
be able to see live hands-on
demonstrations every day – to
have the chance to experience
it all up close and personal
as well as having the face-to-
face talk time at the indoor
exhibition. This year we’re
bringing it to you.
Making the convention
even more interesting, we’re
splitting the conference
program to make it more
accessible every day. We have
great speakers lined up every
day as well as seminars in the
morning and afternoons, to
increase your opportunity to
focus on the business side of
things too. And don’t forget
the excellent networking at all
our social events and the Hire
Industry Excellence Awards -
the premier industry event for
everything hire and rental.
While we’re talking shop,
the HRIA last year held a
couple of good meetings in
Darwin for the members up
north. Numbers were good
and a committee has now been
formed with regular meetings
planned for the future. This is
a great step forward for all our
northern Australian members –
welcome to the association!
Also at association level,
Victoria and South Australia
now have new state presidents
- Jarrod Kerr in Victoria and
Saul Heffernan in South
Australia. Welcome to the
executive and thank you for
the commitment you have
made to the association.
I encourage everyone to try
and attend respective state
meetings. The more people
that attend, the better the
meetings are and the more
we all get back from our
association. There are so
many benefits from being a
member of the association we
all just need to remember to
use the tools available. One
excellent resource is HRNet
which can assist you with all
your employment issues. The
other way to stay in touch is by
the HRIA App, HRIA Facebook
page (the photo section from
recent meetings appears to be
very popular) and LinkedIn; so
log on and like us too! Looking
forward to seeing you at the
convention.
