The Telescopic Handler
Association of Australia
(
TSHA) recently held a general
meeting that was well
attended in Queensland.
It was a great opportunity
for the association to really
start to get the industry’s
message across and hear from
members on the issues they
face.
It was somewhat of a
surprise to me however how
little some people know of
the TSHA and the tools we
already provide through the
TSHA web site.
It is clear a Telescopic Handler (TSH) still creates a lot of confusion
in the market place because of their versatility. But really it isn’t
as complicated as people want to make it and the tools the TSHA
provide can assist in clearing up any confusion.
The TSHA has plenty of work to do to educate owners, users, etc of
the services already offered through the TSHA.
Issues and services currently offered by the association include:
•
Gold Card - Duty of care training
•
Licence matrix - clarifying the licensing needs in each state and
territory
•
Australian Standards Compliance checklists for TSH
•
Guidance on Grey and Parallel imports
•
Guidance on use of work platforms on TSHs
•
and the recently introduced Annual Inspection Guide for guidance
on an owner’s obligations under Australian Standard 2550.19.
Other objectives for the TSHA in coming months are to draft some
industry guidelines with regards to compliance to NSW DPI MDG15
Guidelines and Mining Specifications.
With manufacturers producing TSHs up to 22,500kg capacity, the
uses for TSH are vastly different to 10 years ago and an objective
of the TSHA will ensure users have some guidance in this area of
compliance as the market and uses for TSH changes.
Overall the TSHA is still a very young association with a lot of work
to do in publicising itself and the mission it has set.
For the immediate future, the TSHA is setting some clear
objectives, including:
•
To gain recognition and educate Australian industry in the safe
and effective use of the Telescopic Handler concept
•
To provide the tools to develop and educate industry in the safe
and effective use of the Telescopic Handler in the interests of
improving safety and productivity in the workplace
•
To be the resource for industry, construction and agricultural
industries in the safe use and maintenance of Telescopic Handlers
in Australia
•
To represent member’s interests in the pursuit of a self-regulated,
safe and unified Telescopic Handler industry.
