One of three manufacturing centres for
the Snorkel range, Levin near Wellington in
New Zealand, has developed a new scissor
lift model capable of providing a working
height of 40 feet (12m).
Development of the S3970RT involved a
number of engineering challenges with one
of the most valuable attributes being the
S3970RT is two machines in one – indoor
and outdoor – a truly practical bi-power
diesel/electric machine.
For indoor work, the optional battery
pack offers significant endurance
capabilities and its Kubota diesel has
equally good endurance for outdoor work.
While reaching a 12m working height,
the machine is well suited to narrow-
access tasks and is relatively light-weight
at 3.8 tonnes, handling rough terrain
competently, Snorkel said.
In the field, the S3970RT has 350mm
ground clearance; its 4WD with
independent articulated rear axles give
rough terrain performance.

self-levelling stabilisers and can be
driven at full extended height.
The S3970RT has a 39 foot working
height with a 70 inch wide machine.
The working deck is 1.65m wide and
2.73
m long, plus has a standard 1.2m
roll out deck with a carrying capacity
of 350kg. Snorkel can also provide a

v power outlet on the deck as an
option.
Levin is one of three manufacturing
centres for the Snorkel range – the
other two are in the UK and the US.
New Zealand’s proximity to the
Australian distribution arm permits
quick delivery of machines that
can be tailored to Aussie buyers. In
addition to a range of options and

painted in corporate colours.
