“
Road building and
access construction
will be very different
dependent on the
location of the project,
however in essence
it is the same process
of forming a base
and then providing
a suitable finished
surface,” Tom O’Dowd,
Business Development
Manager, Smart Track
Australia said.
“
The process can
be quite simple or
extremely complicated,
sometimes requiring
many tonnes of excavation and massive quantities of imported
fill with many machine and man hours to get the task completed.
The civil engineer and the contractor will approach the project
right from the start as something permanent and built to last.
“
Now imagine none of this is possible; you can’t excavate or
import fill; there is no long term plan to leave the infrastructure
permanently in place. On top of this you need to either
rehabilitate the area or leave it looking untouched; the area
needs to be the same as it was before you got there; in some cases
after just one day, one week or maybe even a year.
“
Naturally this won’t come up every day, but it is nice to know
when it does there is a workable solution. I-Trac has been in the
Australian market now for just 18 months, however is already a
proven performer in construction and events.”
The I-Trac product consists of interlocking panels that can form
a road or pathway, from 1.2m wide and increasing in 600mm
increments to form any width or length desired.
“
I-Trac is made from inert polypropylene, engineered to take
200
tonnes, so not only will it withstand the punishment, it will
also leave nothing behind,” Tom said.
“
While it will almost be more cost effective to place crushed
rock or sometimes even a light concrete slab, this is not always
possible because of the sensitive nature of the ground or the
location of the project. Botanical gardens or a golf course for
example will not take kindly to a crushed rock road across
their beautifully maintained grass. Even if they did, the costs in
rehabilitation would outweigh the costs saved on the low tech
approach.
“
In this situation I-Trac becomes an attractive proposition.
The product is designed to spread the weight and take the
load without damage to the land contour. The inventor and
manufacturer of I-Trac suggests you think of what the product can
do versus a temporary concrete slab; reusable many times over.
I-Trac can also be installed without machinery as each component
weighs only 15kg. A road can be created within hours, in any
weather and no curing time or settlement is required.”
Smart Track Australia, a division of No Fuss Event Hire, is the
Australian agent and stockest for the I-Trac product.
