just did it as we saw fit
and Nev and I ran the
business that way for 27
years.
“From a management
perspective, when we
wanted to step out of
the business we brought
in general managers
from outside to operate
the business for us. We
didn’t have kids at the
right age at that point
to step into the role for
us, and we advised our
kids after that, if they
wanted to work in the
family business that is
their right, but they might
never become CEO. We
explained we needed to keep the best person in the management
role. We lowered our kid’s expectations of where they might be in the
family business and they understood that.
