One quick minute with – Jeff Stevens from Roder HTS Australia
With 27 years in the events industry under his belt, it’s safe to say Jeff Stevens from Roder HTS Hocker GmbH (HTS-Australia) loves what he does.
Jeff has been with HTS Australia for the past eight years as National Sales Manager – Australia and New Zealand and he is also the proud organiser of the annual HTS Australia Events Expo on the Central Coast for the past few years – an event which is gaining in strength every year.
Before joining HTS Australia, Jeff was with Baytex Manufacturing Co (Baytex-Australia) for 10 years as its National Sales Manager, and before that he was part owner/operator of Perfect Part Hire for nine years. Jeff took a minute to have a chat.
Q: What is the main issue bugging you in the Events market at the moment?
One of the main issues we encounter in the Marquee/Structure sector is the different Engineering/Rules that apply on a state to state and local government basis. It would be great if all states could come together with a national system that is applied throughout the country. I believe this could be based around the Victorian Building Authority system where each structure has an Occupancy Certificate that has certain requirements that need to be met and allows for alternate solutions so the supplier of the structure knows what they are required to do in any event.
Q: What’s happening in the events market?
The Event industry and in particular marquees and structures have come so far in such a short time. We no longer just provide marquees, we now provide atmospheres.
You can have a structure built to look like a building such as our Audi structures which are designed and built to look exactly like an Audi dealership but are totally re-locatable to any event venue.
Another example is the Pit Straight Structure used at the Adelaide 500 V8 Super car race. It is still the largest temporary structure in the world at 15m wide, 200m long and three stories high.
We must not forget the basics though and the main core business for us is still the small rental companies where our biggest seller every year is The Hocker P series Marquee that has withstood the test of time over the past 30 years and is still going strong today.
We have also moved into selling industrial type structures that allow for rapid installation of large storage structures. Another area of expertise we have is the supply of military and rapid deployment shelters.
