The Australian Constructors Association (ACA) welcomes the commitment made at the National Construction Industry Forum (NCIF) to work together on creating real, long-term change by developing a Building and Construction Industry Blueprint within the next six months.
In a recent article for infrastructure magazine, ACA CEO, Jon Davies said the recent investigation into the Construction Industry “shone a much-needed spotlight on illegal practices and thuggish behaviours that have existed in the industry for far too long”.
ACA has played a vital role in shaping this initiative, viewing the current situation as an opportunity to build a stronger industry that benefits everyone rather than a crisis.
ACA CEO Jon Davies said, “We’re committed to working together to create a sustainable construction industry that welcomes all and is fair for all.
“We have to act fast. The opportunity is right in front of us, and we need to move quickly to get this blueprint off the ground.”
The NCIF’s work won’t overlap with other initiatives, but it will build on progress already made through efforts like the National Construction Strategy, the Construction Industry Culture Taskforce, and the Construction Industry Leadership Forum. Together, these efforts aim to deliver real, measurable outcomes that will benefit the whole industry.
“We are ready to get to work and make sure we don’t miss this chance to create a stronger, more sustainable future for the construction industry,” said Mr Davies.
“Workers want safe, secure jobs that pay well and provide good working conditions. This is not an unreasonable demand, and their well-being should be front and centre in any conversation about the future of construction.
“On the government’s side, the priority is ensuring value for taxpayer money. Projects must be completed on time and within budget because when they aren’t, the public feels the impact—either through delayed infrastructure or increased costs. The government needs projects to run efficiently without the disruptions or overruns that have plagued the industry in the past.
“The construction industry has the potential to be a true success story. Instead of seeing the current situation as a crisis, we should view it as a chance to build the foundations of an industry where everyone wins.”
