H atz Australia is a subsidiary of the German family-run business Motorenfabrik Hatz & Co KG which was founded in 1880. The company is one of the biggest manufacturers of air-cooled diesel engines in the world and is also leading the way with water-cooled engine technology. It employs more than 1000 people worldwide, 5% of them in research and development. Head of the local operation, Managing Director Sami Almogawish, said the brand has plenty to celebrate. “We’ve always worked very hard not just to bring the best products to market but to support our customers with in-house customisation and the best possible service and support. Q ueensland President, Christie McCormack welcomed the new committee for the year; warmly encouraged all Queensland members to consider joining the committee at any time throughout the year and put out a call for interested sponsors for its 2019 meetings. “Focus for the 2019 committee will be on increasing member numbers and improving engagement with existing Queensland members,” Christie said. “The committee is here to bring local concerns to a national level so feedback and requests are always welcome. The committee for 2019 to date includes: Christie McCormack – President; Scott Burr – Vice President. Speakers at the 2018 meetings provided valuable business contacts and business information including presentations from: • Kym Kranen from Tweed Shire Economic Development Department; • David Lynch, Chief Economist Townsville City Council; • Glenys Schunter, CEO of Regional Development Australia; • Aileen Hiskins from Strategic Alignment Training who gave members advice around training, funding, DiSC profiling and the HRIA’s Women in Hire (WIH) program. “The WIH program has been a huge success in QLD with a number of members participating and a great group of male and female members volunteering to mentor women in hire navigate their careers through the industry,” Christie said; • Jeremy Shaw from Master Hire who provided everyone with a very interesting personal insight into the Global Rental Alliance program; • Brandon Gilbert from Coates Hire who gave a fantastic presentation on the pro-active steps Coates is taking to manage risk around load and unload. This presentation has been shared by Coates and is available via the December newsletter link or from the National Office; • Charles Kingdon, Rick Hyde and Scott Burr all spoke about the Young Professionals Network. “This is a particular focus for the QLD committee and we are lucky enough to have the highest number of young professionals from all states participating in the program. Charles Kingdon facilitated a memorable evening on 5 December and there will be more to come. I encourage anyone under 40 to join the program and would love all managers/business leaders to actively encourage their young talent to become a part of this network,” Christie said. Fundraising – Beyond Blue “We decided at the beginning on 2018 to support a charity voted on by the committee. The chosen charity was Beyond Blue. Our members embraced this and gave generously at every meeting. We will be continuing with the ‘gold coin donations’ at our 2019 meetings and I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support,” Christie said.
