PORTABLES Compact asset tracker sniffs out wifi A compact, battery-powered, IP67 weather and dust-proofed tracking device perfect for mounting to small assets or in a concealed location, the Yabby GPS from Digital Matters comes as a new 4G modem (future-proof) and can operate as either a GPS or ‘WiFi sniffing’ tracker. “M ost useful for tracking lower value assets, particularly for the rental space, the Yabby is small enough to go into just about anything,” Stuart German at Digital Matter said. “The WiFi sniffer is incredible; basically it ‘sniffs’ wifi networks instead of using GPS, so it can track indoors and underground like in basement car parks,” Stuart said. “This version of the Yabby uses a Wi-Fi ‘sniffer’ to scan for Wi-Fi access points and the signal strength from each one. This information is then used to triangulate a position which is typically accurate to 100ft / 30m in metropolitan areas. “This can all be done in typically less than three seconds, using a lot less power than a typical GPS fix,” Stuart said. “The Yabby’s 4G modem is compatible with both Cat-M1 and Nb-IoT networks – enabling new benefits. Traditional cellular network specifications (like 4G LTE Cat 9/12) are designed to provide high speeds and bandwith – to enable smartphone users to stream videos and facilitate other data-intensive activities. “The LTE Cat-M1 and NB1 specifications allow the cellular modem (uBlox SARA R4) to be simpler and smaller, and in turn the Yabby. In our testing we have measured our new Cat-M1 devices use anywhere from one half to one third of the power of our 3G devices to perform a data upload. This allows the Yabby to still have excellent battery life (up to three years) on just three AAA batteries.” The Yabby can operate on different modes: one position per day for about three years, or it can be set for movement based reporting. Depending on how it is set, the Yabby will yield around 1,000 updates per set of three AAA Lithium batteries. End users can also set a Movement Alert on the App for early warning if an asset moves without authorisation or is stolen. Then the user activates ‘Recovery Mode’ to go into Live Tracking every 30 seconds. n Contact: 08 6280 1217 or visit: www.digitalmatter.com The Yabby GPS from Digital Matters Site consumables company offers customer service Site consumables and safety specialist, Jaybro is offering to beat prices from its competition by 5% and will lock that price in against all future orders. T rent Joyce, Sales Manager at Jaybro said: “If you are currently purchasing any product in our range at a lower price elsewhere, send through a copy of the invoice and we will beat that price by 5%. This price will then be locked in against your account for future orders.” Jaybro’s range includes: temporary fencing, water filled barriers and concrete crash barriers, traffic control, signage and road marking products, custom printed banner mesh, geosynthetics, precast concrete and drainage products, pits and grates, safety workwear including custom embroidery and printing, personal protective equipment, respirator fit testing safety and traffic signs (printed in-house, fast), building materials, hoses, fittings and fluid transfer, washroom and lunchroom supplies, first aid and emergency products, plus on-site solutions and PPE vending. The company was started by Steve Joyce in early 1996 after identifying a need in the market as a construction industry player. Steve became frustrated by paying too much for site consumables; being given large catalogues of items from suppliers, but finding many of them weren’t in stock and the goods delivered several days later; waiting days for road and safety signs to be made; and the frustrations of calling suppliers who would only ask for a part number instead of listening to a part description, or weren’t open when he called at 7am. Jaybro began in the Joyce garage with the commitment to: provide same day delivery to sites; keep all products in stock in bulk to reduce back orders and focus on delivering the order in full the next day; make special signs overnight; ensure all customer service staff were well trained and had industry experience and knowledge. Plus, open the office at 6:30 in the morning so customers could get their orders in at the start of the day. Steve Joyce’s son, Trent said: “It’s been our mission to make customers’ life easier on site and these same commitments still drive the company today. “Through a number of acquisitions the range has expanded to include products like geosynthetics, temporary fencing and site branding solutions and our range is ever evolving.” n Contact: 1300 885 364 or visit: www.jaybro.com.au New improved traffic management sign controller A new improved RM32D Controller from DataSigns allows access to the 4G network to offer more reliable communications from the sign to WebVMS2 – a cloud-based technology offering full redundancy and security. The cloud based tech also enables customers to monitor and program messages on Data Signs’ products from anywhere with any internet-enabled device. The RM Series Controller has provided Data Signs customers a stable and reliable platform for remotely managing sign technology since 2011 through messaging, GPS location and other advanced sign functionalities. According to the company, the new technology and processes used in the creation of RM32D offer greater opportunities and will be available through service centres and its online parts store. However, due to increasing difficulty obtaining critical parts for the original controller series designed in 2011, support and repairs for the RM32 controller are no longer available. The company announced a migration path to support moving to the new generation Controller. Through a cable adaptor harness the signs can be upgraded to the RM-32D. n Visit: www.partsonline.datasigns.com.au P52 HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS FEBRUARY 2019
