TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & SITE EQUIPMENT Sustainability is on the customer’s list Sustainability is on the customer’s agenda when it comes to mobile lighting tower design and function and customer interest in sustainability is very high, even if it is not so much on the government’s agenda in Australia Chris Morris, CEO Morris Site Machinery said. A lot of the customer interest is in being able to differentiate themselves from their competitors in offering a sustainable alternative,” Chris said. Chris and Phil Winnington, International Business Director at Morris Site Machinery were in Australia for HIRE19 and to visit with key partner, Access Service Australia. Morris Site Machinery is this year celebrating its 150th anniversary, 25 years supplying the SMC brand and 15 years supplying into Australia. “UK emissions targets do influence design and technology initiatives for Australian lighting towers and we are taking time this trip to learn and look for guidance in terms of what technology Aussie companies are looking for,” Chris said. “What we know already is customers want less carbon emitting technology and more environmentally friendly equipment which can be classified as sustainable. “There is a lot more thinking going into product design and development and much of it cooperative and collaborative with customers, especially regarding battery technology and solar technology and LED technology.” Morris Site Machinery became an HRIA member last year and recently launched its Australian website: www.smclightandpower.com. au. In addition, Access Service Australia opened a new depot in WA. “We are entirely market specific for our Australian customers. Australia is a key market and is our biggest market outside the UK, so there is a constant evolution of our technology to suit the Australian market requirements,” Chris said. “We like the honest feedback we get from our Aussie customers,” he said. “The SMC brand is all about going green. We have solar products with battery combination, 100% solar products with zero emissions and no noise, LED lights which can also be auto-dimmable based in PIR motion sensing technology. “We have had a lot of interest internationally and there has been a big change globally in terms of sustainability,” Chris said. Sustainable solar lighting towers for Australia “We have the TL60 Solar Trolley, a small portable lighting tower with a one man trolley delivery capability. It can fit through a standard doorway and is affordable,” Chris said. “It features a combustion engine but can also run from a cable (mains power) and has four 300W lamps, the same as much bigger models. With three 45W solar panels the tower produces zero emissions and zero noise and the solar panels easily fold into transport mode allowing 30 units to fit on a 40ft trailer. With auto- dimmable lights, auto-timer, and PIR sensors fitted as standard, the lighting tower provides light when needed, saves battery power and removes the necessity for manual switching on and off, offering up to 200 hours run time with dimming,” Phil said. Morris Site Machinery and Access Services Australia presented the TL90 Evolve lighting tower for the first time at HIRE19. It’s the next generation SMC TL90 lighting tower with new ergonomic design and compact appearance. “It has three lamp-head options; the standard four LED head, the Halo soft light solution, or the six LED head which makes it the brightest SMC mole lighting tower ever,” Phil said. “The TL90 Evolve has easy access for servicing, smoother lines and shorter body for ease of transport, plus offers 185 hours of run time. Mounted on an approved fast-tow road trailer with road lights, it its 960kg fully fuelled and operates at 60dB(A) from 7m distance. “This model incorporates 15 years of learning from the Australian market,” Chris said. “We moved to an A-frame trailer which is preferred here. Previously we had a bespoke trailer but the A-frame trailer makes it more compact as a unit. The TL90 offers three different light head options: four 320W LED; six 320W LED; or our Halo anti-glare diffused lighting and offers up to 217,500 lumens of light output. “This is an exclusive to Australia offering and gives the option of mains change over or when running off-site, to power off the grid from a generator,” Chris said. “Plus the TL90 Evolve features telematics which is another strong customer interest here in Australia. “All our solar panels are built and tested and proven in the UK. If it works in the UK, then it will operate here in Australia,” Chris said. “To keep our costs low and manageable for customers, we supply our towers with lead acid batteries. And all our solar panels are easily replaceable if required. They are a standardised size often used by caravans. “However, customers tell us they want the option of having lithium or lead acid batteries,” he said. “So we offer that as an option.” n Contact: 1300 272 111 or visit: www.accesservice.com.au or www.smclightandpower.com.au Sustainability is on the customer’s agenda according to Phil Winnington (L) and Chris Morris (R) from Morris Site Machinery in the UK The Access Services team with Chris Morris from Morris Site Machinery at HIRE19 P50 HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS AUGUST 2019
