Hire and Rental News - August 2019
HIRE19 – World class industry convention From a great start at the Young Professionals Networking event on the Tuesday evening, where participants joined in the conversation around professional development in the hire industry, to the breakfast panel discussion at the Women in Hire breakfast which identified how often and how difficult it can be for women to find their voice, HIRE19 featured some worldwide leading events, conference segments and workshops. W ith large numbers of visitors through the exhibition doors, which at the time of publication was expected to be almost as many as last year’s record breaking attendance (maybe higher), exhibitors were pleased with on-the-floor activity with many sales taking place during the two day event. A total of 96 exhibitors made for a sold-out show and brought in 23 brand new exhibitors, while the gala dinner and Hire Industry Excellence Awards were presented to the second highest number of attendees ever, with almost 400 in attendance on the night. The impressive quality of workshop presentations saw excellent numbers of delegates present, with close to 100 attendees for the Business Essentials and Future of HIRE workshops and great representation at all other conference program events. HRIA CEO, James Oxenham said: “It is enormously satisfying to know we are getting it right and building excellent conference and workshops. Components of the annual Convention will be an ongoing project where we seek to exceed expectations year on year.” Kevin Hoffman, the 56th President of the ARA (American Rental Association) kick started the conference program, and Chad Hislop Senior Director of Product Management for Terex AWP followed up with an overview of where technology is solving industry challenges and driving the access market. Behavioural Scientist, David Penglase discussed building customer trust in a world where we are in constant overwhelm from noise and continual stress. The afternoon workshop sessions featured Business Essentials from legal advice on employees issues from the HRIA HRNet program, business accounting and advisory updates from HLB Mann Judd focusing on the importance of knowing the value of your business, to an industry insurance update from HRIA Insurance Brokers (PSC Insurance Brokers) on ensuring your business is fully covered where and when you need it – and how you can actually save money on your premiums. The last session on Day One was by Christian ‘Boo’ Boucosis on leadership and what it takes to succeed as a leader – focus - and remembering to debrief so you can learn from your mistakes today. Day Two featured Olympic cyclist and 11 times World Champion, Anna Meares, who wowed the audience with her ‘Road to Resilience’ presentation. Everyone who attended said it was easily one of the best presentations they had ever attended, showcasing Anna’s drive to succeed, her massive determination and true Aussie grit in the face of extraordinary odds. Lessons learned are applicable to business; control the controllables – don’t worry about the things we can’t control; be aware of whom you surround yourself with - negativity will be met with negativity and vice versa; don’t overlook the small things you can do today to change your outlook. Resilience is a muscle – exercise it. James said HIRE19 once again proved the Australian hire industry is leading the world with its innovative programs and world leading initiatives. “What a great few days in Melbourne. Congratulations and thanks to all our visitors, exhibitors and presenters for making this another show to remember.” On the Thursday evening, the HIRE Industry Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner topped off two days of comradery and networking and some excellent business on the exhibition floor. James Oxenham, HRIA CEO said HIRE19 once again showcased the very best of the Australian hire industry and it was a privilege to bear witness to the awards presentations honouring outstanding industry achievement. “The HRIA would like to congratulate all the winners, we are proud to have you all as members of the HRIA,” James said.
