INDUSTRY in FOCUS structural engineering programs to produce designs and methodologies. “Once your system is designed, Shore Hire supplies a comprehensive shoring plan including technical drawings in either 2D or 3D, which can even be used as part of tender or EOI submissions. The fact all of our products comply with Australian Standards adds to the safety equation,” Luke said. What is your expert opinion on aluminium versus steel trench boxes? “We can confidently say our aluminium shoring boxes are the most robust on the market in certain shoring situations. They will give you even more flexibility to get the job done efficiently, where suited to the task. Having been independently tested, they are compliant to Australian Standards for aluminium shoring products. When aluminium shoring was first introduced there were questions around certification and the durability of the products on the market. “We spent over 24 months designing, testing and manufacturing our HD Aluminium Shoring and believe we have produced the best HDAluminium range available today. You can be certain every Shore Hire product complies with the highest construction standards,” Luke said. “These trench boxes are lightweight, as you’d expect of any aluminium product, which makes installation simple for even a two-man team. Components can easily be man-handled onsite and the box can be lifted into place using a small excavator. “Of course, while these aluminium shoring boxes provide flexibility, they’re not suited to all shoring applications. When you’re shoring a trench it’s about using the right product for the job, depending on the prevailing ground pressure and your preferred method of installation. In some circumstances, aluminium boxes simply won’t do and you’ll need to use a steel trench box for adequate strength,” Luke said. “The other scenario where aluminium isn’t suited is where you plan to use a dig and push installation. Steel buckets on excavators can damage aluminium boxes and this is not a cost anyone wants to bear after you’ve finished a job,” Luke said. “TheTechnical Sales team at Shore Hire can assess requirements and advise exactly which product you should be using for the job – steel box, aluminium box or otherwise. “Even at shallow depths it’s not worth risking using the wrong product,” Luke said. The Shore Hire range of Edge Protection Safety Equipment has also been developed in response to the ongoing industry demands for safe access in all shoring applications and is compatible with all Shore Hire Boxes and Trench Sheet Systems. Shore Hire recent projects Case Study 1: Northwest Growth Centre Project The Situation: There was a range of deep excavations of varying sizes that needed shoring systems that complied with Australian Standards and edge protection that complied with Australian Standards for the installation of new infrastructure at the Northwest Growth Centre project. The Solution: Shore Hire provided engineered shoring solutions and methodologies including detailed risk assessments, Shoring SWMS and trench safety presentations to ensure the contractors onsite used the applicable shoring solution for all service installation. The Result: By consulting a specialised shoring provider the contractors onsite were able to carry out their works safely and economically. Shore Hire provided benefits to the contractors by meeting the OH&S requirements of the head contractor. Case Study 2: Smeaton Grange The Situation: Our customer required a shoring system for the installation of an 80,000 litre underground milk storage tank. The clear span dimensions were 12.5m L x 7.5mW x 5.5m D. The Solution: Our Technical Sales team discussed the onsite requirements and constraints our client was faced with in order to put together a methodology. Our engineering team produced a temporary works design which utilised our Hydraulic bracing system,Trench sheeting & EMV to assist with the installation of the sheets. The Result: Shore Hire was able to provide a safe work environment as per the site requirements which enabled the successful installation of the milk storage tank.
