It is also about creating a positive and safe working environment for our employees. Making them feel valued and creating a fun, safe and productive workplace. My daily responsibilities are to be connecting with new and existing clients. On top of this is anything to do with marketing, social media and public relations. We are a family operated elevated work platform hire business that prides ourselves on a personable and reliable service. We are passionate about having quality equipment and delivering on time every time because we have a BIG vision which will not be achieved without the consistency in our service. Our vision is: ‘to improve the well-being and make a difference to the lives of people going through cancer’ . We have set goals to go with this vision which I review every month. I am personally very passionate about this because I went through a Cancer journey. Our inventory is scissor lifts, knuckle booms, cherry pickers, vertical lifters, and forklifts. We offer dry hire (without an operator) and wet hire (with an operator). Q: Did you undertake specialist training/or gain qualifications? A: No. The only thing I put myself through at the very beginning of my career in hire was a Certificate IV in Small Business Management at RMIT. I am very passionate about education, continued learning and often put myself through development workshops/courses. I knew absolutely nothing about the industry in 2016. I had not even driven a scissor lift before. Now, I could not explain how much I have learnt. I am certainly not an expert (yet!), this will take years but I know I am on the right track. I have recently been accepted into the Women in Hire program through HRIA which will take my career even further. It will give me further opportunities to develop my leadership skills, build confidence, be mentored by an industry leader and pursue an even more successful career within this industry. Q: What are the challenges for women in the hire industry? A: I believe in the daily running of a business challenges for women in the hire industry are exactly the same as a man’s challenges. The other challenges I have come across as a woman in this industry is inner confidence (which I think comes with knowledge), feeling intimidated when going into a room full of men, dealing with confrontational conversations and physical strength. Q: Are these issues being addressed at all? A: Yes, definitely through the ‘Women in Hire’ program at anAssociation level.
