CPB expects all scissor lifts will comply with its requirements by 31 January 2018. The mandatory reduced operating parameters will address three speeds including: • Operating – Lift Time (Max) – Max of 0.13m/s; • Driving speeds – Stowed (Normal) Drive Speed – max of 2.1km/h; Building contractor sets minimum mandatory speeds for scissors CPB Contractors has set minimum mandatory speed reductions required for all scissor type MEWPs on CPB Contractors Projects and CPB Joint Ventures from 8 January 2018. • Driving speeds – Elevated Drive Speed – max of 0.8km/h; plus James Oxenham, CEO of the EWPA said: “When CPB decided to roll this out nationally, the EWPA provided feedback from rental companies and OEMs and facilitated a meeting to work through the operational speeds proposed by CPB. Issues such as pump and battery failure as well as gradeability were addressed to ensure machines could function safely and reliably at the lower speeds requested. “Rental companies working with CPB will now be liaising directly with OEMs regarding the work required to comply with the CPB request. CPB believes by slowing the operational speeds as specified in its 19 December letter, operators of scissor lifts will have more time to react should they get into a hazardous position. “The EWPA is certainly interested in finding out how this initiative undertaken by CPB progresses and its impact on operator safety and site operations,” James said.
