Hire and Rental News - August 2018

53 HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • AUGUST 2018 INDUSTRY in FOCUS our UK market and products,” Chris said. “We have developed lighting towers specifically for the Australian market. For example, we have widened the axels and raised the chassis on the towers to accommodate the road conditions in Australia and the distances to travel. “Also, diffused lights were an Aussie initiative for Morris Site Machinery (Halo diffused lights). We took a French concept and developed it for the Australian market. In the UK, directional lights are more popular.” Lighting tower wise, Chris said LEDs are more efficient and use less fuel. “Our new trailer mounted lighting tower, the TL-90 Ultimate offers a 50% increase in fuel capacity and run time, delivering additional hours of operation and greater cost savings. The Ultimate features a two cylinder Kubota Z482 diesel engine and four 320W LED lights. The 170 litre fuel tank enables 265 hours operation. “Using metal halide lights on this model, run time on a single tank (170 litres) is 85 hours. Moving to LED lights means we get 165 hours of run time on a single tank which offers significant savings for the customer refuelling and distance wise.” Chris said. Another innovation developed for the Australian market was at Coates Hire's request. Coates Hire requested an extra low voltage machine to reduce the need for a qualified electrician to service the equipment. High voltage machines need qualified electricians to service and maintain them which can be more expensive to manage. Lower voltage machines lowered the service costs. “In Australia the big push is around environmentally friendly technology – mainly battery and solar powered units. We offer electric lighting towers which are rechargeable from the mains or a battery," Chris said. “But battery powered units cannot deliver the same energy as an engine driven machine, so we have included PIR motion sensors to our lighting towers which when in use at night, power up the lighting to full power when the motion detectors sense proximity; when no motion is detected, the unit powers down again to a lower level of lighting. “We developed and launched this technology – the TL-55 – featuring PIR controlled dimmable LED lights to expand the battery working life of the unit,” Chris said. “With the addition of solar panels, the unit can have two power sources. With the perpetual power source provided by solar panels, the batteries will never run down to need an external power source.” Morris Site Machinery launched its TL-60 lighting tower at HIRE18 – a small portable lighting tower with a one man trolley delivery capability. It can fit through a standard doorway and is affordable, Chris said. It features a combustion engine but can also run from a cable (mains power) and has four 300W lamps, the same as much bigger models. “We are the only ones we know building small units with the same light output capacity as larger models,” Chris said. Next year Morris Site Machinery will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
