57 HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS • NOVEMBER 2017 POWER, PUMPS & LIGHTING The seed growing business began in 1989 when Don Curnow purchased a small seed grading business so his son could get started on the farm. Don Curnow mentored and partnered his 16-year-old son, Andrew, through the businesses early years. Together they decided to improve on their original grading machine’s design. “I taught myself how to weld, wire, hydraulics and engineering to create a grader from scratch that would help grow the business,”Andy said. And, 13 seasons ago, Andy chose a Kubota generator to power his invention. Andy’s Kubota is still going strong without fault, up to seven days a week and sometimes 20 hours non-stop during the season, he said. According to Kubota, that’s 11,000 hours of hard yakka for the Kubota SQ 3300 generator. Add 40° days and some serious Generator powers on 11,000 hours straight, non-stop, without fault A Kubota SQ 3300 generator has been helping grain growers maximise their seed crops for the past 13 seasons at Loddon Valley Seed Grading. dust and it’s clear Andy’s Kubota is a true workhorse. “I look after it – change the oil and service it. It doesn’t even use oil between services,”Andrew said. “There’s nothing gone wrong with it. It just purrs away forever.” NowAndy’s built a bigger, better grading machine. Problem is he needs a bigger generator to power it. “I wanted a 50kVA Kubota, but they don’t make one,”Andy said. “I could get one from another supplier, but the Kubota’s proven itself. I’m a diehard fan. I didn’t want to rebuild at 10,000 hours, so it’s got to be a Kubota.” He turned to Mike Kuhlwind, LK Diesel’s Kubota expert for a solution. He’s engineered a unit to meet Andy’s requirements exactly. “I’ve combined the Kubota V3800T engine Andy’s ordered with a generator to deliver the 40-45 kVA he needs,” Mike said, whose Braeside, Melbourne business has been a 5-star service dealer for Kubota since 2007.
