CONVENTION PREVIEW
Atlas Copco’s new QLTS solar light tower provides light with no
noise, no emissions, no fuel and no external charging for weeks and
has no rotating parts, no fluids to refill, no risk of oil spillage and no
maintenance for two years.
Tested by Atlas Copco in Canada, the US and Chile, the QLTS solar
light tower has proved itself for sites which require safe lighting or are
remote or environmentally sensitive, Phil Ryan, Business Development
Manager – Light and Power Atlas Copco Portable Energy said.
Emitting construction quality light from dusk to dawn, the QLTS
solar light tower is available in four, six and eight light versions with
the ability to add an additional two lights to the four and six models
to achieve a maximum total of eight lights (six on the QLTS-4). Each
light can operate independently. The new light towers are ideal for
noise sensitive environments such as events and residential areas as
well as remote areas where fuel sources are few Phil said.
LED lights are fitted to the QLTS’s 8m (20 foot) extendable 360o
rotating mast. The LED lights switch on and off instantly, with no
warming or cooling time. High efficiency LED lights are powered by
four Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) 12V batteries which are charged by
the solar panels fitted to the light towers. The AGM batteries are fully
sealed, maintenance free and will provide over 400 deep discharge
cycles before needing to be replaced.
The tower has been tested by Atlas Copco in Canada, the US and
Chile. It performed consistently and reliably, operating one light for
12
days for 12 hours per day. Battery charge was tested with the light
tower running for 32 hours with all charging fuses removed.”
The QLTS has an all metal frame which is fitted with four heavy duty
stabiliser jacks. The solar panels are made of reinforced glass panels
and have supporting frames. The plastic LED lights are shatterproof
and weatherproof.
The strong box
containing the
batteries, converter
and gauges is made of
thick steel plate and
fitted with anti-theft
screws. Louvre groups
in the box are fitted
with PET mesh which
is water tight and
allows water vapour to
escape.
Optimal solar
charging is achieved
when the light tower’s
solar panels are aimed
perpendicular to the
midday sun. They can
be slanted to adapt for
the change in the sun’s
rays during the seasons, flat in summer, tilted in winter. A compass
is provided in each light tower to ensure the tower is positioned for
maximum sun exposure. The panel is pinlocked for safe transport. In
mainland Australia, the amount of sunlight even in winter, should
prove to be sufficient for the QLTS solar light tower to not require
additional charging.
