CONVENTION PREVIEW
After decades in
truck sales, South
Australia’s Emanuele
family branched out
into equipment hire
in 2011, choosing JCB
for its compaction
equipment.
Big Chief Hire
was launched by
brothers Joe and Tony
Emanuele.
“
This is a family-run
business that has
been operating for
40
years,” General
Manager Maurice
Lerace said.
Big Chief Hire
started out with
five pieces of JCB
equipment and has
since added several
more.
“
Initially we had
three rollers; a VM132,
a VM115 and a VM75; plus a 436HT wheel
loader and a JS240LC excavator. We recently
added another VM115 and a VM132
smooth drum roller with pad shell and we
have just bought a VMT260 double drum
and a VM75 smooth drum,” Maurice said.
“
The feedback we’ve had from customers
is the rollers are very user-friendly. This is
especially important for dry hire because it
makes the induction process simple and lets
our customers get on with the job.
“
Customers also find the JCB Vibromax
rollers very good on fuel and often
comment on the open space inside the
cab,” Maurice said.
JCB Construction Equipment Australia
recently introduced the full line of JCB
General Manager Maurice Lerace said Big Chief Hire has gone from strength to strength after expanding its
fleet with a VM75, a VM115 and a VM132 smooth drum roller, and a VMT260 double drum roller
JCB a natural choice for rental
Vibromax compaction equipment in
Australia.
All models except the VM46 and
VM1500F offer the choice of two vibration
frequencies.
A patented one-piece exciter shaft
design on single drum rollers results in
reduced maintenance, reduced servicing
costs and less downtime for the single
drum compaction roller. The Switchable
Anti-Slip system also prevents the roller
wheel from spinning and slipping when
loading the machine onto steel ramps for
transportation.
Twin drum models feature industry-
leading fuel and water tank capacities
to keep them going longer between
refills, while the electronically controlled
hydrostatic direct
drive enables
operators
to maximise
performance by
selecting double
vibration, single
front vibration
or single rear
vibration.
“
We won’t
move away
from JCB, we’ll
stick with them
because of the
service and
support we
get from Peter
Jeffery and the
team at JCB
CEA,” Maurice
said.
“
One of Big
Chief Hire’s
main priorities
is how quickly
we respond to our customers and we have
found JCB CEA shares that priority with us.
“
Over the past 18 to 20 months four
of the machines have been on long term
hire with national companies and have
moved with them from project to project in
different states,” Maurice said.
The 7 tonne and 3 tonne rollers have
been used mainly on roadside works
projects for various South Australian
government departments, including one
of South Australia’s recent major projects,
the Seaford Rail project in Adelaide, where
contractors utilised the VM132 padfoot
roller and the VM115 smooth drum roller.
