our industry needs
to be vigilant in
Workplace Health and
Safety. You might
need to ask yourself
some questions. Do
you have staff
training matrixes?
Are you instructing
and documenting
customers on the safe
use of equipment?
Are all service records
documented?”
Welcome to our first edition
for 2013! I hope you all had a
great festive season and feel
refreshed and ready for another
year of opportunities.
Speaking of opportunities,
late last year and at the time of
writing this article we had some
good meetings with the
Attorney General’s Policy
Advisor as well as the Attorney
General.
This was to discuss and
request amendments to the
Personal Properties Security Act.
These talks went well and the
HRIA prepared a submission on
behalf of members for
suggested amendments to
hopefully resolve or lessen the
impact this legislation has on
us all.
Continuing the good fight,
the HRIA, EWPA and now CICA
(
Crane Association) are all
working together to battle this
contradictory legislation.
So far we have not heard
of any member losing their
assets to liquidators but that
is probably more luck than
judgement. Please ensure you
remain up to speed with this
legislation. Check the HRIA and
EWPA webpages for updates
and make sure you have moved
onto Master Agreements and
Hire Schedules to try and cover
the risks.
The HRIA annual convention
is moving into top gear already;
now almost fully booked and
the Delegate Brochure is out
now online. Make sure you get
your early bird registration in
and come and enjoy the show.
I know you will get value for
money and leave knowing more
than when you arrived. The
Luna Park setting will be a great
showcase for our industry and
the two-day event promises as
much in networking as it does
in experience.
I think the beginning of the
year is always a good time to set
some goals for your business;
to review pricing structures and
look at areas of your business
that may need improvement.
One area in particular where
our industry needs to be vigilant
is in Workplace Health and
Safety. You might need to ask
yourself some questions. Do you
have staff training
matrixes? Are you instructing
and documenting customers on
the safe use of equipment? Are
all service records documented?
These questions provide some
food for thought since when
(
or if) something goes wrong
it can impact our businesses
substantially.
I would also like to welcome
to the board Ashley Lancaster
from Coates Hire who is our
new NSW President; Tom
O’Dowd from No Fuss Events
who is our National Events
President; and Allen Besseling
from Kennards Hire who has
stepped into the role of Vice
President.
These guys and the rest of the
board lend their considerable
skills and expertise to the
association and industry overall
and I ask you all to support
them as much as possible,
particularly at state meeting
level.
Attendance at these state
events is vital to ensure we have
solid representation from all
members and on all issues; the
more we get to our State
meetings, the more we all
benefit!
I hope you enjoy this edition
of the HRIA magazine which
again is jammed packed full of
valuable information.
