The Plasterboard Handler
attachment from Manitou
allows handling up to 1000kg of
plasterboards and reaches levels
on construction sites up to 18m
when mounted on a Manitou
MT1840 Telescopic Handler.
Productivity, product integrity
and safety can be enhanced by
lifting the plasterboard into
place and having the sheet
workers just move the plaster-
board off the handler and into
place on the desired floor.
Now available in Australia
through the Manitou dealer
network, the Plasterboard
Handler is a unique attachment,
designed in conjunction with
the plasterboard industry, which
eliminates the need for much of
the manual handling of plaster-
board on site. This attachment
will unload the truck on site,
manoeuvre the plasterboard
into position and enable the on
site sheet workers to unload at
Plasterboard Handler introduced
Mounted on the Manitou MT1840,
the Plasterboard Handler enables
unloading at first to fifth floors
first to fifth floors. The handler
achieves this with 18m reach
(
when mounted on a Manitou
MT1840) and adjustment
capability with a crowd of 110°
and rotating carriage of 180°.
The Plasterboard Handler
enables better overall
productivity as many sheets
from various sizes (2.4m-6m) can
be moved from the truck to the
site within minutes. Manitou
achieves this by hydraulically
extending the handler’s tines
from 2400mm to 4150mm (able
to handle a 6m sheet) long with
rubber wear plates to ensure
the plasterboard is protected.
Better safety is also achieved as
employees no longer need to
handle heavy loads at heights
and in confined areas.
With a 4 tonne lifting
capacity and rough terrain
capabilities, the Manitou
MT1840 can operate with
the plasterboard handler in
obstructed areas and reach the
property 10.25m away with 1
tonne load. The Plasterboard
handler will be exhibited at ACE
Melbourne (21-23 Feb 2013).

BUYER BEWARE
PROGRAM
A guidance note (available online)
outlining the problem of ‘grey imports’
has been produced by the EWPA and
TSHA to warn of the risks involved
when purchasing second hand
machines from overseas. The document
also covers ‘parallel imports’ which are
new imported machines that may not
meet Australian Standards.
MEWP CONTROLS -
DESIGN & MODIFICATION
There has been a lot of discussion over
the issue of risk assessing and the
need for manufacturers to approve
any alterations. This resulted in the
EWPA issuing a Technical Bulletin
identifying end users’, owners’ and
suppliers’ responsibilities which was
supported by several manufacturer
members who posted risk assessment
documents on the EWPA webpage. The
EWPA recognises this issue is ongoing,
especially when the EWP manufacturer
is no longer around, but believes
industry awareness is increasing.
