With a 60% growth in business over
the past 12 months, Brisbane based
Queensland demolition and recycling
business, Envirosite has doubled its staff
and expanded its fleet with four new
Hyundai Construction Equipment (CE)
machines to cope with demand.
Envirosite’s latest acquisition, a
R235LCR-9 23.5-tonne excavator, with
its standard Hyundai Hi-Mate remote
monitoring system, has positioned the
company for further growth with its daily
reporting capabilities on engine hours, fuel
consumption and machinery travel hours.
Envirosite’s Director, Myron Lichtnauer,
said: “The Hi-Mate system alerts me to
replacement times for commonly wearing
parts and tracks routine maintenance
timeframes, alerting me via an SMS or
email. This enables increased productivity
as I can factor in downtime well in
advance. Our Hyundai dealer can also
log into the system, so I’ve got a backup
should I get too busy.
I also use Hi-Mate to track data on
machinery work hours and location –
information which I can then use to
provide 100% accurate progress reports to
clients as required.
The system’s capabilities extend to
measuring trends on fuel consumption
and I can factor that information in at the
Hi-Mate system positions growth
tendering stage to ensure our operating
costs are covered.”
Along with the new R235LCR-9
excavator, Envirosite added a Hyundai
HSL650-7A skid steer loader and a Hyundai
R27Z-9 mini excavator to its fleet with a
wide range of attachments including rock
breakers, augers and core hole drillers.

Owners of the Takeuchi TB180FR
excavator – until now, the only model
in the range of this Japanese produced
equipment which has not been ROPS
certified - can now have their machines
fitted with a fully ROPS compliant frame.
The kit is designed to be fitted to all new
TB180FR machines and is retro-installable
on all existing TB180FR machines. The kit is
ROPS frame fitted to TB180FR excavator
Retrofit ROPS protection for Takeuchi
delivered with detailed fitting instructions.
Fitting is a two day job in the workshop
and requires removal of the counterweight
during installation,” Semco’s Graham
Murphy said.
There is some welding and relatively
minor panel modifications, however, any
qualified tradesman welder is able to
carry out installation under the Australian
Standards for welding.
Detailed installation
instructions and clear step by
step images are provided.
The ROPS-over adds to
the overall height by just
200
mm; however the frame
is designed to be easily
and temporarily removed
if required in tight-access
areas. The modification
allows the standard tilting
cabin action to be carried out
in the specified manner.

According to Customs broker,
Peter McRae from Platinum Freight
Management, if you’re thinking of
buying a second hand earthmoving
machine from Asia make sure you factor
in all the additional costs, because
you could be hit up for $4,000 just for
cleaning the machine when it arrives.
Peter said increasingly earthmoving
companies are buying second hand
excavators, diggers, dozers and other
machines from Asia where top branded
second hand machines are selling at
discounted prices.
However, he said earthmoving business
owners are being caught out by massive
customs and quarantine costs – which
might still make it worthwhile, but
importers should check the risks first.
Generally, the price they are selling
for is low enough to easily absorb the
shipping costs and a good customs
brokerage can generally organise to
reduce the import duties from 5% to
zero because the machines are not
manufactured in Australia. But potential
cost traps include cleaning and storage.
The Department of Agriculture
Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) will inspect
the machine on arrival and in most
instances direct it for a steam clean;
as you can imagine the machine has
intricate parts and those parts need to
be cleaned thoroughly and the costs can
easily top $4,000.”
Peter said the additional costs are
incurred by the Quarantine Accredited
Premise (QAP) who are accredited by
DAFF to undertake the work. Another
cost is the fee for moving the vehicle by
truck from customs to the QAP.
He said a broker can pre-clear the
cargo before it arrives into Australia
but once it arrives, the machine will be
inspected and either released, sent to
the QAP or in the worse-case scenario,
be re-exported. Brokers are connected
to Customs and DAFF electronically and
receive virtually instantaneous responses
regarding the status of cargo, Peter said.

Platinum Freight Management in 2001
as a customs brokering and freight
management company.
