United Rentals, the world’s largest rental company, continues to expand its footprint in Australasia, securing a landmark 15-year lease for a 14,000 sqm container yard at Brisbane Airport.
The purpose-built facility is the latest step in United Rentals drive to support the Australasian hire industry and provide better outcomes for local businesses and customers.
The expansive 37,203 sqm site will feature a 14,000 sqm concrete-topped container yard capable of housing more than 1,000 shipping containers, alongside a 6,835 sqm workshop area and 600 sqm of office space.
The move follows United Rentals’ acquisition of shipping container specialist Royal Wolf in 2021, Shore Hire and Orange Hire in 2024, and Canberra-based rental specialists Civil Construction Hire in March this year.
The airport location will consolidate the company’s two existing Brisbane sites at Banyo and is expected to be fully operational by late 2025.

Neil Littlewood, Regional Vice President of United Rentals Australasia, says the strategic location provides significant advantages for both the company and its customers across the region.
“From a practical perspective, there was readily available land in a location that we know is still growing and will allow us to tap into the medium-term opportunities of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.
“We can minimise disruption to our 40-plus staff in our existing two locations, and there are the economics of not having to relocate large distances and being able to service customers from this connected location.
“The site being owned by the Brisbane Airport itself was also appealing, as the approval and development processes are streamlined.”
Littlewood says the site will serve as a key flagship hub in the region, supporting smaller locations with convenient access to major transport routes.
“Establishing a comprehensive facility, allows us to bring together our manufacturing expertise and engineering capabilities with our rental services, ultimately providing greater choice to the local market and enhancing value for our customers,” he added.
