Electric mini excavator launched
Hire & Rental Nov 25
JCB will launch its zero-emission, low-noise electric 19C-1 E-TEC mini excavator early in 2020.
The quietest digger in its range the 19C-1 E-TEC can work in late night urban conditions, within buildings and even in rail tunnels with no requirement for exhaust extraction equipment.
Key features include:
- Three lithium-ion battery packs providing a 312Ah (15kWh) storage capacity;
- A standard load-sensing hydraulic system;
- On-board charger with 230V input for six-hour recharging;
- Battery management system ensuring full-shift availability;
- Fast charge option on launch giving a full charge in 2.5 hours.
The new electric mini external noise is 7dBA lower than its traditional diesel-powered counterpart. This means it can work after hours in urban areas or in other noise sensitive environments.
Electric engine
The electric excavator replaces the standard machine’s diesel engine with an electric motor and three, next generation 104Ah battery packs, to deliver 312Ah (15kWh). The batteries use NMC lithium-ion cells in a rugged battery pack housing.
With a 48V electrical system, the motor has instant, greater torque than the standard diesel engine. Also, the 19C-1 E-TEC’s Bosch Rexroth load-sensing hydraulic system offers the same digging performance as the standard 1.9-tonne excavator.
The advanced electric-hydraulic combination means lower cooling requirement contributing to longer battery life and the much lower noise level.
The 19C-1 E-TEC has the same adjustable undercarriage and choice of digging equipment as the diesel model, providing a digging depth up to 2,576mm with the longer 1,100mm dipper arm.
Full day operation
The self-contained power system means there is no need for an electrical power connection or cable during machine operation. The battery packs allow a full working day in a typical duty cycle or four hours of operation in an extreme duty cycle.
The 1.9-tonne machine can handle a range of powered attachments.
